Consulting
Over the past couple years I’ve been in technological situations that were “below my standards,” which has encouraged me to explore technologies above and beyond what one would normally use.
My favorite example of this was when I was living in the country, and had a satellite ISP. The lag times and some of the strange things that ISP did drove me to try and improve my situation. I took an older P3 I had laying around, and configured it as a caching HTTP proxy server (using Squid), caching DNS resolver (bind forwarding to dnsmasq, because all port 53 traffic was intercepted), mail gateway (using Postfix and fetchmail), and development web server. These components together made the experience much more tolerable. Sadly, that machine died about a week before we moved.
When we moved into our last rental, we had very poor cell signal (living between 2 100 foot shale cliffs will do that). I decided to use my Linode as an Asterisk gateway so I could have cheap home phone service. Now, that system has grown, and now handles voicemail/email, reminder calls, call parking, call spamming, etc. (a good portion of my features came from my prior use of GrandCentral).
I even got my dehumidifier on Twitter!
So now that you’ve seen some of the things I’ve done for myself, why don’t you contact me and see what I can do for you?
